Lions Child Sight UK
Lions International in the British Isles is working to reduce the number of children with undiagnosed eye disorders. The National Health Service believes some 13% of young people under the age of 11 years currently have an issue that no one is aware of. As part of this project, we are working in partnership with PlusoptiX to provide a camera screening opportunity for as many young people as we possibly can. The electronic screening looks at the mechanism of the eye as well as the sight of the child. There is no physical contact with any participant and no eye drops are used. Post screening, each child will be given an individual letter. If a potential visual problem is detected, the “red” letter will direct the parent/carer to get the young person seen by an optician. If no vision problem is detected, then the “green” letter advises parents/carers to follow current NHS guidelines for eye care.
Each member of the Lions team who would visit your school has undergone an Enhanced DBS Check and has been trained in how to use the camera.
Farnham Lions are currently awaiting delivery of a camera in February 2026 when Lions members will undergo the necessary training. Once this is completed we will be contacting schools to arange dates for screening. Currently the recommendation is to commence the screening with Year 1 pupils.
